Open science
Paradigma: Journal of Educational Research promotes the progressive adoption of the principles of Open Science to strengthen transparency, reproducibility, accessibility, and collaboration in scholarly communication. The journal encourages editorial practices that support the responsible sharing of knowledge while respecting ethical principles, copyright, and research integrity.
The following policies reflect the journal's commitment to Open Science.
I. Open Peer Review Policy
The journal will progressively implement Open Peer Review while maintaining double-blind peer review as its primary evaluation system.
In an initial phase, Open Peer Review may be offered before the peer review process begins, once the manuscript has successfully passed the initial editorial screening and has been deemed suitable for external review. Participation in this modality requires the informed consent of both authors and reviewers, who will be consulted through an official communication sent to the email address registered in the OJS platform. If both parties agree to participate, the manuscript may be evaluated under an Open Peer Review model. Otherwise, the evaluation will proceed under the traditional double-blind peer review system. Acceptance or refusal to participate in this modality is entirely voluntary and will not influence the editorial decision.
II. Policy on Manuscripts Previously Posted as Preprints
Paradigma: Journal of Educational Research accepts for evaluation manuscripts that have previously been deposited in recognized preprint servers, provided that this information is disclosed by the authors at the time of submission.
The prior posting of a manuscript as a preprint does not constitute grounds for rejection and does not affect the editorial evaluation process.
The journal recommends the use of trusted preprint servers, including SciELO Preprints, and requests that, once the article has been published, the preprint record be updated with a link to the final published version of the article.
III. Research Data Policy
The journal encourages the responsible sharing of research data, instruments, source code, supplementary materials, and other resources that support research findings, provided that their disclosure is ethical, lawful, and compatible with confidentiality commitments undertaken during the study.
When data are available in institutional or specialized repositories, authors should provide the corresponding persistent link, DOI, or other identifier within the manuscript.
Making research data available is considered a good scientific practice that enhances the transparency and reproducibility of research, although it is not currently a mandatory requirement for publication.
IV. ORCID
The journal recommends that all authors provide their ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) identifier when submitting a manuscript. The use of ORCID promotes the unambiguous identification of scholarly output, strengthens interoperability among academic platforms, and facilitates the accurate attribution of authorship.
V. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA)
Paradigma: Journal of Educational Research promotes an editorial process based on the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
The evaluation and selection of manuscripts are based exclusively on their scientific merit and compliance with the journal's editorial criteria, without discrimination on the grounds of nationality, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, institutional affiliation, ethnic origin, religion, or any other personal characteristic.
The journal encourages the participation of researchers and specialists from diverse backgrounds and seeks to ensure that all stages of the editorial process are conducted impartially and without discriminatory practices.
VI. Transparency in Authorship Contributions
The journal adopts the CRediT Taxonomy (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) as a mechanism to ensure transparency regarding the individual contributions of authors. The contribution statement will be requested during the manuscript submission process and published with all accepted articles. Policies regarding authorship and the criteria for author recognition are described in the Ethics and Good Practices section.
VII. Digital Preservation
The journal implements measures to ensure the long-term preservation, accessibility, and availability of its published articles (details here).
Content is preserved through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform and the institutional backup mechanisms implemented by the UPNFM. In addition, the assignment of Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) contributes to the permanent identification, retrieval, and accessibility of published articles.
The journal will progressively strengthen its digital preservation strategies through the adoption of new standards and specialized services for the archiving and long-term preservation of scholarly publications.
